What’s the point of all this struggle?
Don’t you feel that way sometimes? As photographers, we’ve entered this career path because we were in love with the process of image creation and enamored by the possibility of creating images for a living. However, somewhere along the line, we lose that enthusiasm and our spark of creativity dims. We begin to wonder… “What have I gotten myself into?” “Is this the right path for me?” “Why does photography feel like such…work?”
Well, there’s good news! You’re definitely not alone! I’ve talked with so many photographers who have taken the leap from hobby, to passion, to career (full-time or part-time), and have learned that at some point we all feel like this. I certainly am not pretending to have all of the answers. I can promise you though, if this is you, we are kindred spirits. I know what it feels like to regularly lose my gumption, lose the will to create, and to question my choices. …but I’ve also learned many ways to overcome these thoughts and emotions in order to give myself that periodic “jump-start” we all need from time to time.
What can you expect to find here? Faith, family and photography will be key themes, but no matter your belief system, family structure, or success in photography, I hope you will find some inspiration, some insight, and some encouragement to push on! So moving forward, this blog is dedicated to reaching photographers who are struggling and desperate to find their way. No matter your skill level, no matter your location, no matter your accolades, there is a happier, more confident, more creative version of YOU…and with just the right push, I think you’ll find that person alive and well!
