Look Beyond Photography: Episode 39 “Future Unknown”

At times, I have these glimpses where I feel like things are coming together and I’m able to see my future in front of me, but to be honest, most of the year is a real struggle.

The truth is, it’s not easy to keep it together. Running a small business means there’s no such thing as job security. There’s a constant feeling of “what else should I be doing?”  Then, on top of the one hundred things that’s going through your head at any given time, life doesn’t slow down either. There are issues, plans, and events totally outside of work that require attention, and at some points you feel like a rubber band that’s being stretched so thin you could snap.

All of this which only seems to create a smokescreen over what we’re doing and where we should be headed. I don’t know about you, but more often than not, my future looks like I’m standing in an early morning valley shrouded in fog…not able to see more than a few inches in front of me. If only the fog would part and I could see where I’m meant to be headed then maybe I could direct my decisions accordingly.  From others I’ve talked to, I can tell that I’m not the only one who feels this way.

So what do we do when our future is unclear and we’re unsure of the road that lies before us?  The only thing we can do…step forward in faith and trust that God guides us to our destination.  I believe God only allows us momentary glimpses because He knows we would be so distracted by the destination that we lose sight of the steps it takes to get there.

See, the same God that says “Acknowledge me in all ways and I shall direct thy path”, allows us to see the stepping stones He’s laid out before us when we’re seeking His direction…even if only one step at a time. But it requires faith to step out into the mist that clouds our future, and trust that the path we’re on is the one He has ordained for us.   …and really, what’s the alternatives?  To sit and do nothing while waiting on the fog to clear?  …or to turn around and follow behind a million others who are going the wrong direction?

No, I’ll continue to trust that where Jesus leads, I’ll follow. …and even if I can’t see my hand in front of my face, I know that the Lord sees everything clearly and is there to lead me by the hand. Come good or come bad, He will hold me up, guide me through, and He will give me an abundant life!
